Award Show Favorites from
Cannes Lions Festival

Eddy Cue for Entertainment Person of the Year

My favorite award of the night went to Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services. Prior to the festival, I only knew a little about him beyond his connection to Apple, but I anticipated wanting to see him throughout the festival. As one of the first awards of the night, Eddy Cue won the Entertainment Person of the Year award. What amazed me the most was that the tribute included so many people congratulating him and giving insight into the person behind his success. The video featured colleagues, creators, athletes, musicians, actors, and other leaders, so with each clip, I gained a better appreciation of the influence that he has, which is often behind the scenes. Watching the tribute reinforced something I noticed throughout Cannes. The most respected personalities are not always visible, nor do they let others be visible. They earn admiration for consistency and strong relationships. I am happy for Eddie Cue; it truly showed that the harder you work, the more respect and success you will gain.

Oprah Winfrey for the LionHeart Award Year

I am pleased to say I was at the award show when Oprah won the LionHeart Award. I have never had so much respect for a woman like her, especially after listening to her talk earlier in the festival. Also, watching the video they played for her made me tear up. Oprah is such a badass, and seeing her receive one of the biggest awards at the Lions definitely meant so much to her.

GUT's "Pope Yes" for Break Through on a Budget Award

A few months ago, I was in my STC234 with Professor. David Berry. We had a guest speaker, and even though I wanted to go back to bed, I did not. Instead, I learned about GUT Miami, created very cool ads, and heard its backstory. The one I liked the most, “Pope Yes”, was playing on the big screen in my classroom and in the award show. This moment brought my class lesson and speaker full circle. I would rate the commercial an 11/10!

Life360's "I Think of You Dying" for Consumer Goods Award

This commercial won a Consumer Goods award, and I fully understand why. I really enjoyed watching this commercial because my family members are big fans of Life360. My parents are not as strict about where I am, but it is more like my grandfather. He always stalks me every minute of every day. The commercial reminded me of my grandfather telling me to be careful and always think of the worst possible things that could happen to me. Overall, the commercial is engaging and hilarious. In my opinion, it’s a 10/10.
